Debica has considerable cultural achievements, especially in music and theatre. More than a hundred years old tradition of music movement had great influence on life of Krzysztof Penderecki, world famous composer, who was born and grew up in Debica. Debica can be proud of amateur artists movement, which is the only one in Poland and since many years performs Polish and foreign operas, like Nabucco, Underskirt, Verbum Nobile, Cracovians and Mountaineers. Each year hundreds of people are involved in organising this huge event. Public Library is one of the very important educational institutions, which play key role in education since many centuries. It has very rich collection of books, consisting of more than 250 thousand of them. There are many unique books and impressive collection of magazines gathered in the readingroom.
Poetry Days and meetings with famous writers are examples of events organised in the library. There are also many music bands in Debica. Two music and dance groups, „Małopolska” and „Igloopolanie” are the pride of the town and give performances locally and internationally. Folk Groups „Morsy” and „Gryfici” relate their art to folk traditions of this region and whole Poland. There are many local and national events taking place in Dębica.
For example, National Classical Dance Tournament „Golden Couple”, National Festival of Religion and Patriotic Song „Polonia Semper Fidelis”, Children’s’ and Teenagers’ Bands Festival „O Laur Rzecha”, „Debickie Evenings with Culture”, „Days of Arts” and national recitation contests.
There are three cultural centers responsible for cultural activities. They organize dance, musical, acting, recitation, arts and photography groups. Lessons are conducted by professional instructors and are very popular with children and teenagers, but they are also attended by adults.
One of the places for meetings with artist is the gallery in Town Cultural Centre. There you can also admire magnificient paintings and sculptures by Polish and foreign artists.The gallery runs school of painting for teenagers and adults and organises plein-air paintings.
